My name is Sigi and I am the founder of Pelvic Health & Fitness. I graduated with my Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern California. Following over a decade of working in the pediatric field, I decided to pursue another passion of mine -- personal training. In 2018, I became NASM certified and a certified yoga instructor.
As a personal trainer working with women, I saw a real need to understand the changes that occur in a woman's body during pregnancy, after pregnancy and through the various cycles of her life. A year later, I began my own fertility journey that pushed me to go back to my profession as an OT and continue my education in the realm of women's health. I am now a Pelvic Floor Therapist covering various issues in women's health related to bowel and bladder, pelvic pain, sexual function, prolapse, pregnancy and post partum rehabilitation. In addition, I specialized working as a personal trainer for women during pregnancy and I am a certified Body Ready Method ® pro.
I love working as both an occupational therapist and a personal trainer because I believe these two disciplines complement one another. My goal as a personal trainer is to train women how to exercise right for her body so she can achieve her fitness goals, while, at the same time, take into consideration her cycle, pregnancy, hormonal changes or pelvic floor symptoms she may be trying to resolve. During my work as a pelvic floor therapist, I realized that my work is limited to the therapeutic setting. Handing out several exercises for my clients in addition to their therapy wasn't enough. I see so much value in the exercise portion of healing symptoms but unfortunately I could not provide a fitness program or work as a trainer for my clients because the therapeutic setting is limited to rules and regulations of insurance. I wanted to provide a service of interventions that would go beyond the therapeutic setting. That service would be fitness programs designed to help improve and strengthen the pelvic floor, strengthen the body as a whole, all while helping women reach their personal fitness and wellness goals. As an occupational therapist I look at what may be interfering with one's activities of daily living such as, hobbies, sports, caring for children or playing with grandchildren. All of these "occupations" require a strong core, balanced pelvic floor and overall strength and much of this comes down to exercise. This is how I began my combined practice that I call, Pelvic Health & Fitness.
